Up for sale is a vintage Universal Lamp Co AutoLite Miners 4" Carbide Mining Lantern Lamp. This brass/copper-colored lamp was manufactured in Springfield, Illinois, USA.

Carbide lamps were used by miners before the advent of electric lamps. They worked by dripping water onto calcium carbide, which produced acetylene gas to fuel the flame. The lamp has a beautiful patina from years of use.

This would make a great addition to any mining antique or lamp collection, or could potentially be restored to working condition by an experienced collector.

CONDITION NOTE: Used, but in Very Good condition overall for its age. Not tested. The lantern has various nicks, dents, scratches with some surface corrosion (on the reflector) and dust/dirt (see pictures). The unit could not be unscrewed to see inside the container, and I did not want to force it. Does not include the original box and does not include any user documentation.
