Short Biography of the Potter
Oscar G. Quezada is a renowned Native American potter from the Mata Ortiz region of Chihuahua, Mexico. He is a member of the esteemed Quezada family, which played a pivotal role in the revival and popularization of the unique Mata Ortiz pottery tradition.
Quezada was born in Mata Ortiz and learned the art of pottery-making from his father, Juan Quezada Celado, who is credited with rediscovering the ancient pottery techniques of the Mogollon culture. Juan Quezada's efforts in the 1970s led to the revitalization of this art form, which had been lost for centuries.
Oscar G. Quezada is considered one of the first members of the second generation of Mata Ortiz potters. He began creating pottery shortly after his mother, Consolacion Quezada, took up the craft, following in the footsteps of his father's pioneering work.
Quezada's works are highly sought after for their intricate geometric designs, exceptional craftsmanship, and adherence to the traditional Mata Ortiz style. His pieces have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, and he has received numerous accolades for his contributions to Mexican folk art.

Oscar G. Quezada comes from a family deeply rooted in the Mata Ortiz pottery tradition:
Father: Juan Quezada Celado (the reviver of Mata Ortiz pottery)
Mother: Consolacion Quezada (one of the earliest Mata Ortiz potters)
