Short background on the manufacturers:

Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen were originally separate companies, but they merged in 1987. Here are the key details about their relationship:

1) Separate origins: Bing & Grøndahl was founded in 1853 by sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and merchant brothers Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing. Royal Copenhagen, officially known as the Royal Porcelain Factory, was founded earlier in 1775.

2) Merger in 1987: Bing & Grøndahl merged with its primary competitor, Royal Copenhagen, in 1987. After the merger, they operated under the name Royal Copenhagen.

3) Post-merger production: Following the merger, most Bing & Grøndahl products were produced under the Royal Copenhagen mark, with some exceptions:

--From 1987 onwards, only B&G Annual collectibles continued to use the three towers mark of Bing & Grøndahl.

--Other B&G products produced after 1987 used the Royal Copenhagen mark.

4) Distinct trademarks: Before the merger, each company had its own distinctive trademark:

--Bing & Grøndahl used the three towers symbol derived from the Coat of Arms of Copenhagen.

--Royal Copenhagen is recognized by its factory mark of three wavy lines symbolizing Denmark's three waterways.

5) Current ownership: In 2012, Royal Copenhagen (which includes the former Bing & Grøndahl) was sold to the Finnish company Fiskars
