Vintage 1950s Ridge Tool Co Rigid Heavy Duty Straight 14” Adjustable Pipe Wrench B7-8 Red

 

This vintage 14" straight pipe wrench was made by the Ridge Tool Company, the predecessor to RIDGID tools. It has a sturdy ductile iron body with an I-beam handle and full floating forged steel hook jaw. The self-cleaning threads and replaceable hook and heel jaws allow for smooth operation. This vintage wrench is built to last and makes an excellent collectible or functional plumbing tool.

Background: 

The Ridge Tool Company was founded in 1923 in North Ridgeville, Ohio by William O. Thewes. The company invented the modern pipe wrench and trademarked the "Ridgid" brand name. Ridge Tool Company moved to Elyria, Ohio in 1943 where it still manufactures Ridgid brand tools today as a subsidiary of Emerson Electric.

 

Estimated Age: 

Based on the markings, this pipe wrench was made prior to 1966 when Ridge Tool Company was acquired by Emerson. So it dates to the 1940s or 1950s.
